On Choosing Your Wedding Florist

Updated January 8, 2024

Real Talk:  I never, ever thought I would end up in the wedding business.

Turns out, I really love being a wedding florist! …Partly for the creativity & problem solving it involves and partly for the absolutely wonderful people I've met so far.

There are tons of options for florists in Western New York. Many are lovely. Many take time and care creating beautiful floral displays. A handful, like me, grow their own flowers, while a few are like the Amazon of flower shops - everyone seems to know them or are referred to them because that's where "everyone goes for wedding flowers."

So how do you choose your wedding florist? Honestly, I can't exactly say because every person is different (me, you, your lucky fiancee, your mom, his mom, her mom, aunt janet). We all expect and require different things out of the people we hire and the people we serve.

I will say this, though…

Your wedding planning experience will be much more personal and will reflect you, as a couple unique from all other couples…

…when you hire someone who is as into your wedding day as you are!

Enter me. I'm the flower child plant lady over here with my hands above my head balancing a tray of tea and biscuits for you to enjoy. I'm listening and patiently taking in everything you have to say. I want to know how you met. I want to know the little reasons why you love this person so much. I want to know what you're most excited about. I want to know what you expect the flowers do for your day.

I'm over here editing and composing a vision that is entirely unique to you. I'm guiding you to choose a floral display that is reflective of your own personality. I'm making suggestions that you're free to take or leave. I'm not selling you unnecessary tablescapes and elaborate installations, unless of course, that’s what you want. I'm doing my best to stay within your budget because I respect you're about to dropping a lot of moolah on this wedding.

I'm designing your lush, loose bouquet with over 20 different types of flowers, foliage & tiddlybits.

I grew this and I trudged through the thickets for this.

I found inspiration in nature, and in you, to inform me how to arrange it all together.

I care more than you imagine.

I'm also over here being brutally honest about how much all of it costs, so it's fair for both of us.

Somewhere down the line, between the ages of 2 and 32, I found a desire in myself that I want to take on the creative, heart opening, jerryrigging challenge of designing floral displays for one of the biggest days of two peoples' lives.

For some of us florists, it's more than just business. It's emotion and connection. It's discovering how to describe the celebration of two unique people from seed to vase.

I'm excited to see where it all goes. In luck & love…
